Hola, Gustav

Are you coming for the Texas Coast? I hope not. And I also hope you get second thoughts about hitting New Orleans like Katrina did. Thats just too much for us Southerners to deal with in this economic twist we are in. Have a heart and turn away, or just have fun for a while over the Gulf and then rain yourself out.
Here is the projected path of Gus, and Texas (Galveston in particular) is about 125 West of the eye coming on shore, according to this prediction. Others show the eye coming on shore in New Orleans, LA. It has only been three years since the catasrtophic Katrina came through whipping her wind and spouting her water. So many people lost their lives, lost their homes and displaced.
*There are just some things in life where I wish I could just SNAP my fingers and change the course of natural disasters before they happen* Only in the movies...... for now.
....how come none of the hurricaines will ever be named *TREVOR*?....

Gross

Lauren, Lindsey and I have all been diagnosed with ringworm.
Sounds DISGUSTING, eh??
Well, it is NOT an actual worm (Thank goodness!!)
I know, but still. Ewww.
Here is what I have learned from the world wide web at my fingertips, and especially Google!!
Ringworm is a very contagious skin FUNGUS. The same fungus also causes Athletes Foot and Jock Itch. (another ewwww...)
Cats are the main carriers, dogs too. They get it from other animals and dirt.
So, you should have an idea as where we got this.
The rash itself looks like little round circles, redder on the edges and what looks like dry skin in the center. They start out small and spread in size and numbers, depending on exposure and the whole touching/itching factor. The rash itself is not bad, nor hard to get rid of, once diagnosed. It only gets bad if you itch them and they bleed which can cause a secondary infection. With pus and stuff. (Gross)
The first of the rash shows up 4 to 7 days after exposure.
Treatment: Topically, meds for athletes foot are the best. My Doctor made a reccomendation and we are trying it. Internally, an anti fungal is prescribed for *bad* cases and taken for 3 weeks or so. (Lauren has lots of sores, so our Pedi prescribed an oral med.) We are also taking an antihistamine (Zyrtek) to keep the inflamation and itching at bay.
I am hoping for a full recovery, soon. The girls had to be pulled from school until next Tuesday. Hopefully by then, most of the rash will be gone, just have to keep using the the anti-fungal cream to keep the fungus from coming back, and if it does, it will probably be resistant to the cream and be tougher to get rid of the second time.
I I have *learned* not to take in stray kitties. :0( Ya never know, and it sucks. Try to do a good thing and it slapped me in the face. Poo.
The shop is scrubbed, vacuumed and disinfected.

VOTE FOR ME!!!!

Remember the painted high chair??
Well, Etsy is having a Kids contest and I entered the furniture category with my painted chair.
There are so many cool things to choose from in the category... Mine won't win, per say, but I am just happy making it as far as I did.
Anyhow, you have to have an Etsy account to vote, so if you don't, be sure to make up some neat name and then VOTE FOR ME HERE.
Thanks!!!
XOXOXOXO

PZB Stuff

Since I spend an inordinate amount of time at The Pink Zebra Boutique shop, I thought a little sharing was needed. Just so you can get an idea of what I look at all day every day. LOL
When I moved in, in June of this year, I only had 3 days to move out of my old place, so there was no time for painting the walls. Only time to set up shop and get as organized as possible so that shopping could happen.
Over the course of the last month, I managed to paint one of the 2 large rooms (With some help from Stacy Jacobs, our resident paint artist, SJacobs Design) and move all the baby/infant stuff over to that room, and integrate all the accessories into the other room near the clothing.
The original paint (still in the other large room) is a baby-poop-gold-yellow-brown color that is so drab, no clothing item could make it pretty.
Stacy and I first attacked the wall facing South and made it a pretty light pink. The East wall became rolling green hills, baby blue sky perfect for flying a kite and then we added some white picket fence. (The crib covers some of that cool fence, poo)
Yesterday, I was able paint the North wall to continue the rolling hills and sky.
I keep on arranging and rearranging the furniture. I am so anal. I just want it to be perfect. One day, I may be satisfied. :0)
Anyhow, the shop is fun and easy to shop in. Our sales are getting bigger and bigger every week. That's such GREAT news!!!! I even have FIVE pairs of Katy Taylor High School Homecoming overalls ordered!! Yay me!! (Lots of work, me...!!)
Anyhow, here are a bunch of pictures I snapped before we left today, mostly of the baby area, where the paint is new.
I made my first goal: To have the one room painted and looking like a Pink Zebra Boutique SHOULD look like before September 1. I now have 5 pair overalls and a craft show to prepare for. My next goal is Room #2, also the bigger of the 2, painted by Christmas. We'll see.

Another Rescue and an Update

Meet Bandit. Princess Bandit.
She did not look so good a week ago.
I am such a sucker!!!!
Here's the history: Nine years ago, Gustavo Mendiola opened his Rustic Furniture business, Casa Mendiloa, in a little Victorian House in Old Katy, Texas. He had a kitty..... she had kittens, they had kittens..... A few years later, Gus moved his growing furniture store across the street where he could blossom. Kitties have continued to reproduce under the old house and move out over time.
Thats where Miss Princess Bandit came from. A decendant of of the original Gato de Casa Mendiola. She was born sometime in June, after I moved into the little house and set up shop. Not sure of the exact date. Over the past couple of months, I would catch glimpses of little black & white ears, a pink a nose or a skinny tail scampering under the house when I would walk to the back to borrow a tool.
A week ago, the owner of Katy Hardware (my East neighbor, proxy by parking lot and storage), was out back holding the tiniest ball of grey and white fur. She was nuzzled so deep in his armpit, I could barely see her face. Story is this little kitty survived an animal control raid on several ferral cats in the neighborhood. (I DID notice that there were not-so-many-kitties around). The girls BEGGED Ray to let us have her for the day to feed and pet.
She spent the first 3 hours curled up, ears back, tail between her legs. Every move, every sound made her look like she was going to jump out of her skin. When let down, she seemed too terrified to move anywhere and twitched continuously to bite at fleas.
I immediately put a flea collar on her and sprayed the carpets. Her twitching stopped within an hour.
We fed her, cuddled her, loved on her. She was pretty beat up, phyically. Scratches. ear mites, a scab on her hind leg.
Nurse Lauren took fabulous care of her.
By Wednesday, Bandit would come to her name, purrr, meow and rub her little face on us. You can see by the pictures, she has a great new home and animal lovers to take care of her now.
Welcome home, Princess Bandit. =^.^=

A Little Behind.....

..... Cuz thats all I got!!! :0)
I took some pictures, because I like to post a picture or 2 every time I blog. WELLLLLL.... I had a senior moment and left the cord that attaches to my camera to load the pictures to my PC. See where I am going with this?
Saturday was spent in the shop sweating my butt off trying to get a coulpe of customs done. Saturday night I cut a pile of Kimono Booties to sew... Worked at Babins on Sunday.
Monday I made booties. Many, many booties. You see, I am preparing (yes, planning ahead and preparing!!) for a craft show at Katy High School on September 6th & 7th. I need to have lots and lots of small affordable things to sell. My Kimono Booties and Onesies are my best sellers right now, so that is what I am concentrating on!!
Here are a few of the booties I made......

Oh sew busy.

I think I have a warning in the header of my blog... Something about being busy... Hmmmm. Yup, it's up there.
Sorry I have not written in a couple of days.
The storm turned out to be a dud. Just some rain, nothing major. I think we got about 2 or 3 inches total. Bummer. I wanted some fun!!
I took the day off and stayed home with the girls, Shane & Pappas. Everyone did their own bit of puttering around. Me? I stitched up some garments to have in the shop and list on line.
Here's a few I have listed in my Etsy shop:

Babin's stunk BIG TIME!!! I walked with $17. UGH. That smarts.
That's OK, though. I drove straight to Orlean's ( another Louisiana style seafood place) and treated the family to fried Boudin Balls. YUMMY!!!!!
Yesterday, Wednesday, my friend Lizzy came by the shop to visit with her new son Sebastian. He's so cute!! We dressed him up in KMB Baby and snapped a few pictures. The shop is not set up for baby portraits, thats for sure. But I will share a couple shots with you. I need to learn how to photograph babies.....

Today, today, today....
My new painting Designer came by the shop today. We were talking about moving some displays around, breaking up things, blah, blah.
Well, that was at 3:00. Eck-hem.
I got home at 11:30 and the shop looks like a bomb went off.... EXCEPT for the 2 walls we painted!!!! YAY!!
I cannot WAIT to share the pictures of our finished project there!!
Good things come to those who wait!!
Heh-heh. I have to get to bed, cuz I will be in the shop at the crack of dawn to get things where they belong.
You all know how I love, love, LOVE paint!!!
Happy trails!!!

Battening Down the Hatches

Ed is coming our way..... That is if he does not hook a bit East before landfall. So far, Ed, short for Edouard, is only a really big Tropical Storm, with sustained winds of 45-50 MPH. The news is reporting that the storm will *probably* make landfall as a class 1 Hurricaine. Winds may gust up to 75 MPH.
Luckily, I am not a Coastal resident, but about 40 miles from Galveston.
However, I am still not taking any chances with my family, home or tiny shop in Old Katy.
I have some work to do inside and outside, not to mention a little grocery shopping. I have to prepare for possible electricty outages, flooding and most importantly, the wind. That means picking all the *stuff* outside and keeping it from where it can fly into a window or something.
I'll keep y'all posted. I am sure everything will be fine..... This is so much better than living through an earthquake. I can see my threat, so it really does not scare me like having an earthquake just sneak up on you. :0)
Later, Gators.
